Why is there a rise in Gender Based Violence cases in Kenya?
Since 2010, the cases of GBV have been ever increasing with each new year. The COVID-19 pandemic made things worse due to the economic downtime, coupled up with underlying social and economic disparities rooted in gender inequality. In Life Bloom’s experience working with GBV survivors, one of the main reasons that has led to the increase in Gender Based Violence is most cases go unreported to local authorities due to the stigma that accompanies Gender Based Violence.
In addition, most law enforcement officers are inadequately trained on how to handle GBV cases. This is why Life Bloom believes that adequately training first responders on GBV and basic psychosocial support skills can improve on the support given to survivors. Join Life Bloom in this fight!
