CHILDREN COUNSELORS TRAINING; PHASE ONE

During the week long visit to Suswa, our team, lead by our CEO and lead trainer Catherine Wanjohi , conducted the first ever training in peer counseling for children. 44 children from Suswa, Ereteti and Empaash primary schools (the schools enrolled in our project and the epicenters of transformation), attended the two day training to learn skills in basic counseling.
This knowledge was impacted on them to enable them support their peers with their challenges and issues related to early marriages, forced labor, drugs and substance abuse, and bullying. Most importantly, their role would be to identify fellow peers who were facing these challenges and refer them to teachers for more support.
The concepts were broken down into information that the children could easily understand. To make the training more interactive, play therapy was used to put concepts into practice for easy remembrance. This visit marked phase one of the training. A phase two will be conducted later in the year.
